Ms. Dozier's DNStarship: Climb Aboard!

Today, students were encouraged to take responsibility for their education. “It’s not just up to the teachers, or your parents,” Mr. Jimerson remarked. “The responsibility is yours.” Mr. Jimerson used a Koolaid analogy to help the DNS men understand their responsibility for their education, reinforcing Dr. Vannelle’s $20,000 bill experiment the day prior. He reminded the students that if they’d been invited to a party, they should also bring something to the party, especially since everything else is being provided for them.

The DNS men started off the school year much better off than most teachers I know: with $20, 000 securely adhesed to the bottoms of their seats! “What would you do with $20,000 ?”, asked Dr. Vannelle, our new Head of Schools. Brendan Harrelson said he’d save it, while James Pratt gives half of the 20K to charity and deposits the other half in a SunTrust account. Others had much more lofty ideas–Oshari Baldwin would buy a mansion, while Jose Espinosa would shove the 20K IN YO’ FACE!
At any rate, and I do mean that literally, students recognized that some kind souls have given their money, time, and other resources in order for each of them to be at Durham Nativity School this morning. What an awesome start to what promises to be an awesome year. This, my dear friends, is not only worth $20, 000 per student, but is in effect, priceless.
