“We will be honoring our 8th grade DNS Men with a special “8th Grade Kings Day” Thursday, June 4, 2009! Each 8th grade student has been given a survey to complete to give all of our 7th and 6th grade students an idea of who they are, what they like, things they like, etc. These completed surveys will be sent home in the Blue Communications Envelopes with all of the 6th and 7th grade students. Then, Thursday, June 4th, each 6th and 7th grade student is to honor all of the 8th graders with special gifts, cards, poems, tributes, etc. to wish them well as they embark on their high school journey! Here is a picture of how that day will look…in the morning the students will take their last final exam. Then, the 8th grade students will be crowned “kings” for the day and be taken by limousine to lunch with me in their honor. Once we return from lunch the 6th and 7th grade students will have a special assembly to honor the 8th graders by presenting them with their gifts and by saying a few special words to celebrate them. We will then move into graduation rehearsal after the special 8th grade assembly. Please make sure that your son takes the time to honor the 8th graders in a special way! This is a very exciting time for them and they need to know that we are proud of them and wish them the best as they move into their future!” I. Medlock, Fabulous Friday Updates, May 29, 2009

Cinco de Mayo is a popular holiday in Mexico. It commemorates the Battle of Puebla, an unlikely victory for the small Mexican army with-a-whole-lot-of-heart against the huge, seemingly unstoppable French army with-too-little-humility. In fact, the French were so confident in their military power, they sent only a small army to fight in Mexico!
