It is in vain, sir, to extentuate the matter. Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace–but there is no peace. The war is actually begun! The next gale that sweeps from the north will bring to our ears the clash of resounding arms! Our brethren are already in the field! Why stand we here idle? What is it that gentlemen wish? What would they have? Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it, Almighty God! I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty or give me death!

Huracan Georges Proyecto 3: La geografia

Compare the map of the route of Hurricane Georges to the one provided to you in class in order to name three other countries that were hit by Hurricane Georges.  Make a chart in Spanish showing the three countries, the dates of the storm, and the category of the hurricane at the time it hit.

7 grado- Draw a map showing where Hurricane Georges touched down on posterboard.  Include the calculations of the time it took for the storm to move from Humacao to Mayaguez and the conversion from kilometers to miles on your poster. Be creative.

Los huracanes

The Caribbean island of Puerto Rico is located in an area prone to hurricanes. The word hurricane comes from the Taino word hurakan, which was used by the pre-Columbian inhabitants of the island to describe these storms.  Hurricanes draw energy from the surface of warm tropical waters and from moisture in the air.  The extreme winds of 74 miles per  hour or more can create storm surges–domes of water up to 20 feet high and 100 miles wide-and can spawn tornadoes, torrential rain, and floods.  Students will research and write about severe weather conditions as they integrate the knowledge of natural science and Spanish.

Proyecto 1:  Las matemáticas Due: 6 de enero

Hurricane Georges passed over Puerto Rico at a speed of about 24 kilometers per hour (kilómetros por hora).  Find the distance from Humacao to Mayagüez in kilometers and calculate the time it took for the storm to move from one city to the other.
